It's no secret that Michelle Obama has great style, but what impresses me the most about her--and what separates her from the other first ladies who threw on whatever frequently conservative and boring designer dud was at the ready (ahem, Laura Bush and her Oscar de la Renta suits)--is her enviable ability to look like a million bucks at every price point. Her unique style stems largely from her seamless combination of high and low end pieces. As exemplified in New York Magazine's "The Michelle Obama Look Book" slideshow, she can mix a tee and cardi from the Gap with a Michael Kors skirt to majestic perfection. It all proves that fashion is more than runways and high price tags; after all, how many women can hold their own while standing next to retired supermodel Carla Bruni? Yes, Michelle's statuesque bod doesn't hurt, but beyond aesthetics she truly imbues everything she wears with her own innate grace, making a Target dress shine like Dior.
